Xander smiled slightly, " thank you."

Tevon was enjoying the freedom of the electricity he had access to. he liked being able to do computer work whenever he felt like it

"I should go, my assistant will be to the lab by now." She stepped back from the bars. "Try to stay alive," Brit said then walked out.

Loren practically ran into her as she came around the corner, " Oh...hey Brit."

"Loren," she said, flustered as she took a step back. "How are you?" she asked.

He smiled ever so slightly," I'm...good, how are you?"

"I'm fi," she started to say then began coughing again. "I'm fine." She wanted to talk to him about what Xander had said but it didn't feel like the right time, there were to many cameras watching.

hsi eyebrows pulled together in concern, "are you sick?"

She forced a smile, it wasn't just the cold that was making her feel ill. "A little, but I'll be fine."

he reached out touching her face with the back of his hand, "you sure?"

She shivered at his touch but nodded slightly. She was so hot now but only a few minutes before she had been freezing. "I'm ok," she insisted.

Brit you have a fever." he said shaking hsi head letting his hand fall away from her face, " at least thats what it feels like. you should be resting."

"I'll rest later, I need to get to work," she said. "Are you going to see Xander?" she asked, trying to get the subject off her.

"Brit you need to..." he felt so bad. it was his fault she was sick and now she wasn't even taking care of herself, "go home and rest."

"I'll be fine," she touched his arm. "I promise. Don't worry."

he reached up letting his hand rest over hers on his arm, "I think thats a bit impossible at this point."

"I'll only work for a few hours," she promised, resisting the urge to pull her hand away, " then I'll rest."

'If you must." he sighed

"Well someone has to solve all the problems," she said, trying to cheer herself up. "I'll go home if I feel any worse. My appartment is only an elivator ride away."

"let me know if I can help."

"Just...don't worry about me," she said. "And, if you're not busy maybe you could come see me after work?" She asked. Brit her invation sounded like a date but that was far from what she had in mind.

"Absolutely," he nodded

She smiled faintly, "I'll see you later then. Have a good day."

he nodded, " you too."

Nicholas had gotten to work on setting up the lab for their work that day. Tea and coffee were brewing and he waited, wondering where his boss was.

Brit gave him one more small smile before turning and going back to her lab. "You've been busy," she said to Nicholas as she walked in.

"Just thought I'd get everything set up," Nicholas shrugged. "I hope you had a lovely birthday after I left," he added.

"Thank you," she said as she pulled on her lab coat. "It was...interesting."

He nodded. "What do you want to work on today?" he asked. The pile of files were still prominent on the desk.

Brit poured a cup of tea and sank into her chair. "Whatever's on the top?" She suggested

Nicholas picked up the first file and flipped it open. "The mind serum," he said. "That one should probably be checked anyway." he motioned to the sample they'd poured for the testing.

Brit nodded, she took a small sip of her tea then stood. "We should run the computer simulation one more time and if it works we'll try it on a rat."

Nicholas nodded, but he was surprised. "You're not getting any pressure to hurry this along?"

"I am," she said as she looked at the file. "But rushing wont make it work. I want to get this right and I've already killed enough rats."

Very softly, he asked, "How long till a human trial?"

She glanced up at him. "I tried the last version..that's how I know it didn't work."

"Oh," he nodded and motioned to the computer. "Should we start the simulation then?"

"You don't think this is a good idea, do you?" she asked, ignoring his question.

He shrugged. "For the good of the union, right? We can't just stop progress."

"No, I guess we can't," she said after a moment. "My father wouldn't have approved of this," she said softly.
