"Tevon, take a break. August, come work with Athena for a while." River commanded. August let out a soft groan. Athena would likely beat him soundly.

Nicholas nodded and turned back to the syringe, which he was carefully drawing the mixture into.

Athena grinned. "Ready August?" She asked

Brit returned a few minutes later holding a small cage. A black rat looked up at Nicholas.

August sighed and nodded, putting himself in position. "Let's get this over with."

"Would you like to do the honors?" Nicholas asked, offering the needle.

ooc: no one in particular just me being me and yeah...uhm what can be done to bring my taylor twin in more?

Tevon replaced his glaces and watched the two fighters spar

Ooc: not sure. I'd offer one of my civilian characters but none of them are on the street at the moment.

ooc: sad day. OK. I'm wanting to get her involved soon somehow

"I'll try not to hurt you," Athena promised with a grin. She charged August.

Brit shook her head. "I don't like needles, you can do it."

August smiled. "Sure you won't. "
"Get started you two," river rolled her eyes.

"Can you hold him?" He asked, "easier to make a clean injection." His hands shook with the needle. This had to go wrong, he hadn't wanted this to work.

Athena grinned then charged August, she dropped right infront of him and rolled, kicking at his legs.

"Yeah," she said. Brit carefully took the rat out of the cage and held it carefully.

August tumbled back and rolled onto his knees, hands up and ready to fend off blows he anticipated.

Very carefully, Nicholas lifted the needle and stuck it into the rat, right between Britt's hands. Once it was in, he pressed the plunger down, releasing the liquid into the rat.

Athena jumped backwards and pushed her hair off her face. "Come on, you can do better than that."

"Now we wait," Brit said after she put the rat back in its cage

Nicholas nodded and discarded the needle. "How long do you think?"

August laughed and jumped to his feet. Without warning, he threw himself at Athena as if to take her to the ground. He would use his bigger frame to his advantage in this fight.

Brit shrugged as she sat back down. "I'm not sure, maybe an hour."

Athena crouched and rolled to the side. She knew if August got to close he'd tackle her

Nicholas nodded and looked around the lab. "Should we work on something else while we wait? We've got that whole stack still." He motioned to the large pile of files.

August grinned and backed up. "You gonna keep running?" he asked.

"Yeah, why don't we work on the suplements? Maybe we can get it to taste better." She said

"I'm just waiting for the right moment," athena said, grinning. "I'll win anyway."

Nicholas nodded and pulled that file out of the pile. "Here," he motioned to it and leant down to pull the previous samples out of the little refrigerator.

August made a big show of rolling his eyes.

Brit flipped it open and started reading through it. "What should we make it taste like?"

Athena grinned and charged him, reaching for his legs

"Well if we want it to taste good, then we could go with a fruit-y flavor. Or perhaps fresh, like a citrus?" Nicholas shrugged.

August grabbed her arms and twisted, throwing her to the ground.

Brit nodded, "citrus is a good idea. We should be able to do that, but it might take a while."

Athena winced but was a up in seconds, ready for his next attack.

Nicholas agreed. "But it might be more appealing, especially for the kids. And that can help with the vitamin deficiencies we're seeing."

He ran towards her, reaching to grab her waist, to throw her over his shoulder.

"I agree," Brit said as she gathered a few different chemicals. "We should make the concentrate very high because the flavor will be diluted."

Athena jumped right before he reached her, bringing her knees to his chest

"Yes," Nicholas agreed. "If it's too faint, it won't get people to like it more."

He fell back, stumbling. He tried to grab at her legs, pull her down with him.

"Here's a formula I worked on before," she said as she handed Nicholas a paper. "It's not finished but it's a good place to start."

Athene fell, tumbling on top of him. She hadn't thought he would grab her legs.

He took the formula and looked it over. "It does seem a good place to start."

August grabbed her arms and rolled, pinning her under him.

"I'll gather the chemicals we need if you want to get the test tubes set up," she said.

"ugh, why are you so heavy?" Athena asked

As Nicholas began to pull out the test tubes, the timer on the computer began to beep. It had been an hour, it was time to check the rat.

"Because I'm a big strong man," he laughed. "You yield?"

Brit put the chemicals down and walked over to the rats cage. "At least it's still breathing. I'm going to take a sample of it's blood."


Athena rolled her eyes. "Yes, get off of me."

August rolled off her and stood, offering her a hand to help her up.

"Want me to do it? Needles and all," he shrugged, taking the chemicals from her and setting them to the side. Would they be calling Loren to tell him that the serum was ready?

Athena grabbed his hand and stood up. "If this had been a real fight I would have won."


"Yeah, that would be great." Brit said. "I'll hold the rat."

Tevon grinned and clapped, "that was quite a display."

August laughed. "Yeah yeah, sure you would," he agreed. He patted her on the back, then returned to Tevon.
"Everyone finish up, clean yourselves up, and then get to the kitchens. We can eat and discuss planning." River commanded.

Nicholas took the syringe and carefully took a small vial of blood from the animal. When he drew the needle out, the rat began squeaking and moving around frantically. But after a few moments, it calmed.

"That was impressive," Tevon said as he headed to the men's bathroom to wash up, "how long has it taken for you to get there?"

Athena nodded and headed to wash up

"Thanks," Brit said as she took the vial from him. "I'll analyze it while we keep working."

"Years," he replied. "I joined up when the Union started gaining popularity, been training since then."

Nicholas watched the rat for a few moments while it sat in its plastic cage. But nothing seemed wrong. So, he turned back to the chemicals. "It's looking promising so far," he said, trying to look on the bright side. But this was not good. Had he really accidentally given her the formula?

Athena cleaned up quickly and returned for lunch.


Brit nodded as she put a sample of the blood under a microscope. "This is not good," she said quietly. "Look." She stepped back away from the microscope.

'What about the hottie?" he asked nodding back to where Athena had been

"Who, Athena?" August asked, grinning. "She's uh, she's been doing this all her life, I think. She doesn't talk about it much. But she was here when I got here."

"What?" Nicholas asked, looking into the microscope. "I don't see anything."

"Good to know. she into anyone here?" he asked turning on the water

"Can I join you?" Athena asked River after she got her food.


"See how the cells seem to be moving together?" Brit asked. "They are attacking each other."

"She and one of the guys had... something. But he's gone," August replied, wiping his face with a towel. "Let's get some food, I'm starving."

"Of course," River agreed, moving over slightly. "Why did you let August beat you?"

Nicholas watched more closely. "Maybe that's just the initial stage? We can see how the rat fares, keep monitoring the blood?"
