Sam just stared at him for a moment, speechless. "Excuse me? I didn't just decide to shift my feelings to the first guy that I became friends with." She stood up, angry now. "How can you stand there and act like this all make sense? Like this is something straight out of a textbook?"

He was a little startled by her reaction,"because it does make sense. I didn't assume or imply that you just up and switched one day..." Where was this reaction coming from?

"No, it doesn't. Nothing about this makes sense." Why couldn't he remember? everything had been perfect before.

"What are you taking about?" Of course it did,"hey wouldn't we develop feelings I we spend all the time in the world together. We've been through so much together it makes perfect sense Sam that you..." He took a deep breath trying to underhand

"We?" she asked softly. "You said we."

He nodded, " it would make perfect sense if we developed feelings for each other." He repeated himself not seeing what she was getting hung up on

"And have you?" she asked. She knew she needed to know but she didn't know how she'd survive if he said no

"Have I what?" He asked but only seconds later it hit him, "oh..." He ran a hand through his short hair," Sam..." What was he supposed to say?

"Answer the question, Jeff." she said. "I've answered yours."

"What do you want me to say?" He asked a little abruptly,"you are my best friend. You know more about me than just about anyone. I love being around you. I probably would have allowed myself to fall for you if it hasn't been for David... Is that what you want to hear?"

"If it hadn't been for David." She nodded quickly. "Right, because if he ever woke up I would instantly go back to him, right?" She asked but it came out sounding harsher than she intended

"No," he shook his head. Was she intentionally twisting his words? He rested both his hands interlaced behind his head his elbows hanging down limp, "that's not at all what I said."

"Then what do you mean? What does David have to do with this?" She asked, trying to understand

"Because as far as I knew you were still with David," his voice was raising," what kind of a man would I be if I made a move on a woman who was already with a man?" He stepped towards her his arms going to his sides, " what kin of man would I be then?"

"Well I'm not with him, we broke up," she snapped. "You could have asked."

"Right because not assuming you weren't together with your long time boyfriend is my fault," he snapped right back. What Jason gotten into her?

"Two years! You never once seemed to care if I was still with him or not! What was I supposed to do?" She demanded

"you never have me any reason to think you two weren't together! You went to see him all the time SamA are you mad at me because I'm a decent stand up guy that was trying to be your friend and didn't pester you about your relationship?!" He wanted to jist shake her, "i was doing the honorable thing!" Was that so bad?

She was so frustrated, he was being so stubborn. "Yeah, well maybe you shouldn't have!" she yelled without thinking

He nodded slowly biting hos lower lip for a second,"right.'" It was impossible talking to her like this,"right." He walked back towards the door

"Jeff, wait," she said grabbing his arm. If he walked out that door she didn't know if she'd ever see him again. "I'm sorry."

"for what?"he asked. He didn't just want her to say sorry to smooth things over. Of she as saying sorry he wanted a good reason.

"For acting like a bitch." She said. "I shouldn't have just expected you to know I wasn't with David anymore. I should have told you."

He nodded,"pj." He wasn't sure what Ernst to say

She looked down. She really messed things up. "I guess yelling didn't really help."

Brooklynn smiled and leaned her head on his shoulder.

"Sounds perfect," he agreed, squeezing the hand he still held.

she smiled up at him. "Lets go."

As they walked out of the apartment, he motioned for her to lead them. "Take me to pizza," he said jokingly.

She laughed and started walking, still holding his hand. "There's a great pizza place a few blocks away."

"Fantastic," he nodded and they started walking.

Paige led him to a little itailian resturant that didn't look like much from the outside. "This is it."

He held the door open for her. "After you," he said with a grin, releasing her hand.

"Where would you like to sit?" She asked. The resturant was small but had two levels of seats. To get to the upper level you had to climb a ladder.

He looked at the ladder. "Can we go up there?" he asked with a grin.

Paige grinned, "I was hoping that's what you'd pick." She started up the ladder

He followed her, a little slowly as he climbed.
