"You heard me." She couldn't risk repeating herself. "Diana is going to want you to help me finish the formula."

He shook his head," I can't so that. "

"I know, but you know what she'll do to you." Her hands curled around the bars. "I wont be able to help you."

He reached up his hands resting on the bars just above hers," I don't care what they do to me...I can't so it."

"I can't keep stalling, I'll have to finish it, Xander." she said quietly. "I don't have a choice."

"Do you know how?" He asked doubting it. She was brilliant but the sirum was his baby. He had been te one to even think of the possibility. Now he regreted it...desperately

"Not yet, but I'll figure it out eventually." she said. "I always do."

His face went hard and he backed away," good luck with that." He almost spat

"What did you expect me to do? Run away like you did?" she demanded

"No. I expected you to do exactly this...bow and scrape till they decommission you. " this is why he hadnt said goodbye. No matter how big she talked she wa loyal and couldn't see past that

"They took me in when I had no where else to go, I owe them." Brit said, glaring at him.


ooc: it would be interesting if he knew Diana killed her parents

"You owe them exactly nothing!" He felt his voice building to a shout but he didn't care

"I owe them everything! I'd be living in the streets if it wasn't for Diana!" she yelled

"No! You would be living with Your parents if it wasn't for Diana!" She deserved to know

Brit blinked, to stunned to keep yelling. "What do you mean?"

"exactly what I said," he said hid voice quieting,"they needed your brain and undying devotion. The resistance was the pefect patsy to get you on board."

"That's not true, the resistance killed my parents." she insisted. "They killed them."

"because they are so known fir just killing civilians." He snapped

"Why should I believe anything you say?" she demanded. "You left."

"Thsts exactly why you can believe me...because I left...I don't buy into thier bull crap any more."

"You broke my heart." she said quietly. "And now you expect me to believe that Diana killed my parents."

"i broke your heset?"

"You just left, you were my best friend here and you just left" her grip on the bars tightened. "I thought you were dead."

Scott followed the man's instructions, packing up the food. "How do you think K is going to do?" he asked after a few moments of work.

Nicholas made himself busy around the lab, putting away the chemicals they'd been using and wiping down the tables.

"The last thing I wanted was to hurry you Britt." Xanders voice was doing and gentle, "in sorry but...it wasn't something I planned...it just happened.'"

Greg took in a deep breath, "if he tells them everything he knows he will do just fine "

"This is some birthday surprise," she said sarcastically. "I don't know how long it will be before Diana comes. She won't be gentle."

"oh my gosh..." He stepped back up to the bars, "I totally lost track of time out there." He reached through and touched her face," happy birthday."

She smiled slightly. "Thanks. You look good, for living on your own for the past few months."

He chuckled," we did what we could."

"We?" She asked, slightly confused. She didn't realize he had been with other people.

he nodded, "yeah me and my roommate.." he chuckled at the thought. it didn't seem like the right kind of title

Greg looked over at him, "he should. we told him to."

"Was he caught too?" Brit asked

"She," he corrected, " and yes." he looked down his forehead resting against the bars, "because of me..." he felt so guilty

"Is that... Wise? Can't they use hat to find us?" Scott asked.

"She," Brit repeated quietly. She reached up and touched his face. "Its not your fault."

"Not if we move first." Greg said tring to sound as sure of the plan as he could, "the more truth he can tell tehm the better it will be fore his safety."

Xander snorted, "yes it is."

Brit was quiet for a few moments. "I should go, Diana will be here soon."

he tilted his head up to look at her. Diana...she was the last person he wanted to talk to, "ok...be careful Britt."

Brit nodded. "You too. I wish there was something I could do...to get you out of here."
