"What the heck are you talking about?" she was confusing his so much and scaring him a little

She shook her head as she stepped away from him. The only way he would understand was if she told him the truth and she couldn't, she had to lie. "I...I'm just not thinking clearly."

"Thats bull Sam!" he snapped, "What the hell is going on?"

"Its my fault!" She yelled. "David tried to kill himself because of me!"

"What are you talking about?" this hadn't clarified anything it had only confused him more

"I can't tell you," she said. She could feel tears forming in her eyes. "I can't, I promised I wouldn't tell anyone."

He stepped towards her his hand cupping her face, "sam you are scaring me. Talk to me."

She felt a tear slide down her cheek. "We were just kids, we just wanted to have fun." Another tear slide down. "no one was supposed to get hurt."

"what happened?" He asked his thumb wiping away the tear

"Someone died and my father covered it up," she said as she met his eyes. He'd walk away, she knew he would walk away.

He didn't say anything as he took her hand and led her to the couch, "tell me Sam."

"I can't, Jeff," she said as she sat. "I promised, I promised David's parents I wouldn't tell anyone." She wiped away a stray tear, "his little sister doesn't even know."

"thats not fair to you Sam." He shook his head, "they can't expect you to not tell anyone ever."

"That's they way it has to be, for everyones sake." She said sadly.

"come in Sam...talk to me." This was frustrating him

She pulled her hand away and looked at the wall. "It was five years ago, david had just turned 16. He wanted to celibrate." Her hands balled into fists as it call came flooding back. She could hear the skidding tires and the screams. She closed her eyes, trying to block it out. "I can't," she choked out.

"its ok Sam." He encouraged her

"We were joy riding, david was driving. I was in the passanger seat, to drunk to warn David. We didn't see him until it was to late." She covered her face with her hands. "We hit him. There was so much blood. He died. There wasn't anything we could do, we tried but...there was so much blood."

"sam..." He pulled her into a hug. He knew she and David had been hell raisers but this was new

She clung to him. "We killed him, it was our fault."

He held her tight letting her sob on his shoulder. What was he supposed to say to that?

"just don't kill yourself." Carl chuckled as he finished his water, " ready?"

ooc: unless you are planning on something happening while they are dancing you are more than welcome to god mod farther in teh evening

"David couldn't live with the guilt, we couldn't forget." Her body shook with her sobs. "I tried to stop him, I was to late. I couldn't get to him intime."

Jeff pulled away to look st her, "what David chose to do isn't your fault."

She looked back at him, tears streeks on her face. "The car, the drinking, it was my idea." She shook her head "he broke up with me the day before, I should have known."

"If ...if anything was your fault it might have been the ride but David." he made that choice....not you?"

"It didn't feel that way when I had to call his parents from the hospital," she said. She wiped her tears away.

"you can't blame yourself Sam." he said softly,"you can't."

"I've tried not to, I just can't stop." She admitted quietly.

Jeff took her face in his hands, "then stop...just stop." he said in almost a whisper, "don't let it destroy you the way it did David."

"I don't know how," she said. "I don't know how to stop."

He wished he knew what to say. He wanted to help but he didn't know how do he just nodded

Sam slowly pulled away a few minutes later. She wiped her hands across her face. "Its getting late," she said as she glanced at the clock.

"oh...I Uhm...ill leave them." He said reluctantly as he stod up

"You can stay," she said as she stood. "If you want."

"do you want me to?" He asked a little surprised

"Yeah," she said. "Unless you don't want to."

They danced for a while longer, but finally Brooklynn was too exhausted to continue. "I don't think I can dance another step," she laughed over the music.

Jeff sat back down, "ilk stay." He said then leaned in and kissed her gently


Carl smiled, "i was hoping you would say that." He pulled her off of the dance floor.

She laughed and followed him off the floor. She fell into a seat, still grinning. "That was so much fun!"
