"Undercover work? why am I being considered for that. isn't Nicolas in deep?" what had they cooked up?

After a moment Tevon shrugged as if shrugging off the memory looking back to August,"so how did you come to be here"

Loren slowly made his way tot he lab. he wasn't sure what he was going to say to Britt if anything but he wanted to at least try

"We'd like another person in there, in a different department. It will be dangerous, especially going this late, but we think with a good cover, you can manage to charm your way into a few important places."River replied.

"When Union came in, my fiance was in government. She was pretty active speaking out against the new regime. And when they came in, she disappeared. I suppose I had to think the worst. And then, when everything started to change, I met Athena and a few other people, who introduced me to Greg. So here I am." August spoke flatly. He'd disconnected himself from the story.

"Charm my way in." that didn't sound like a very promising plan, "Have you talked to Nicolas about this?"

"fiance? wow due..i'm sorry." he said feeling bad about asking the question

August nodded. "It's fine. I've had... time to adjust."

"No, but we will be speaking with him about it. And we wanted you to think about it, as it could be dangerous and there will probably be a few more hoops to jump through than when Nicholas went."

Brit was sitting on the floor in the middle of the lab. Papers covered with formulas were spread out around her. She took a sip of her coffee and ran her fingers through her hair.

"Ok..." he was going to let it drop, "SO what now?"

"Hoops?" he felt retarded asking one word questions

Loren leaned against the inside of the door jam, "KNock, knock."

Brit jumped slightly. She didn't think anyone was still here. "Hi," she stood up being careful not to mess up the papers.

"If you give them any reason to suspect you, it's possible they might try to brainwash you. You'd tell them everything about us and be happy to do it. However, we think that you're the best for this and we're sure that you won't be suspected." River was sure, for the most part. She couldn't be 100%, but she knew if anyone could do it, it would be Keller.

"Hungry?" August asked with a shrug. "Not sure. They should be assembling people soon, I'm sure."

"working late again I see." he said sticking his hands in his pockets

"Sure. food sounds good." Tevon nodded

"Tell them everything? what the hell does that...how does that hep?" he snapped still confused

"Don't I always?" She asked. "You can come in," Brit said.

he chuckled, "uhm...how about another drink?"

"Sure, I could use a break anyway." She stepped over more papers as she made her way to him.

he smiled slightly, "but break away till tomorrow right?"

"Maybe," she said. "How was your day?"

"We need another person inside, Keller. We need reports on how the rest of the Union operates, not just the science part. We want you to do it." River sighed. Why was this so hard to explain? "It could be dangerous, but you're the best man for the job."

"Interesting. yours?" he asked as they walked

he nodded slowly, "Uhm...like you said I'll need time to think."

"Of course," river agreed. "Let us know, please. Whatever your decision."

Keller nodded and looked to Athena and then back to River, "Uhm...thanks for letting me know."

"We got the antidote to work and I fixed the cameras," Brit said.


Athena stayed silent. She didn't want him to go but it wasn't her place to say anything

"Of course. And don't kill each other," she instructed before she left them.

he smiled, "Good and I think they are a bit distracted so hopefully that will help them come over to your favor."

Keller just stood there. going undercover? why him? it was a lot to take in

Brit nodded, "good. How's the man in the clinic doing? Did the serum seem to work?"

"What are you going to do?" Athena asked softly

"I'm pretty sure not. he's non-responsive." Loren sighed

"I have no idea." he barely breathed, "What am i..." he never thought he would be asked to go into the mouth of the dragon. he was ok living day to day not knowing what was going to happen but taking the step to potential self destruction...to potentially be turned into something that he ins't

Brit sighed, "I'll work on it tomorrow. I had hoped it would work."


Athena gently touched his arm. "You don't have to do it. Don't feel like you have to because you don't."

"Don't beat yourself up." he said opening the bar door for her, "its a long process."

"I'm a soldier. how can I not go where my country needs.." he felt so much emotion he didn't want to feel. he felt fear. he hated that

She walked in, "I know. I'm just ready to move on to something else."


"Your country also needs you alive," she insisted. "Keller, you don't have to do this."

"I'm sorry Britt. I wish I could help somehow." Loren Confessed

He wiped his eyes, "Would you back down?"

Brit smiled as she sat. "Its alright, but enough about my day. Tell me about yours."


Athena thought for a minute, "if it gave me a chance to blow up the union then no. But undercover...there are so many risks."

Loren shrugged calling for the bar keep, " just a reaping gone wrong."

"I need to sit down," Keller felt his legs go week. he sat down right there in the middle of the room.

"Was anyone hurt?" Brit asked after she ordered scotch.


Athena sighed. "Do you want me to leave?"

"no...no one was hurt. They got away." He ordered a dirty martini.

Keller shook his head, his arms resting on his knees

"I imagine Diana wasn't to happy about that," Brit said. "Were they civilians or resistance?"


Athena sat down beside him. "Talk to me."

Loren thought about that for a minute. She was really neither, "we aren't really sure."

"Im afraid, Athena." He lookedover to her, " I haven't been afraid of anything for a really long time."

"Oh," Brit said. She took a sip of her drink. "Are you going to keep looking for them?"


"You should be," she said softly as she looked back at him. "Undercover is dangerous."

He nodded, "Im sure Diana will want its too keep looking. We need to figure out the elegance before it confess back too haunt us." He tossed back his whole drink hissing against the burn of the alcohol

"i know it is but this feeling..."he heldout a hand and it was shaking

Tevon looked around at the people that started trickling in. The food on hisplate was completely unappealing so he tried to find something to draw his attention

Brit swirled the liquid in cup around for a moment before finishing it. "What if you can't catch them?"


Athena rapped her fingers around his hand. "Tell River no," she pleaded.

"I'm not sure I can." He said quietly.

"well lets just hope we can." He said ordering another drink

"Yes you can," Athena insisted. "We have a hacker now, no one else needs to go undercover."


Brit looked at her empty glass for a moment before ordering another drink. "What will you do with them after you catch them?"

"apparently Greg and river think other wise." He said his fingers curling around her hand

"convince them to join us hopefully. We could use talent like they have."
