"What kind of talent?" Brit asked. Had they found another scientist?


"It's your choice, Keller. Not theirs," Athena insisted

He took a drink, "shes a ghost. She knows how to stay hidden, knows how to vanish and knows how to assimilate perfectly onto an environment. The south Africans trained a handful of them before the union took over and we have been able to find all but two that we have in our system."

"They saved me...they saved all of us. We owe them everything, Athena." He corrected

"She?" Brit asked surprised. "You must really want to catch her then, since you're only missing two. Who's the other one?"



She searched his face for a moment. "Then you've made your decision?"

"we do." He nodded, " the other one is in old Ireland we think. Their talents would be so useful."


"i..." He supposed he had thinking of it a little more, "i think might have."

Brit nodded. "How old is she? The girl you're trying to catch."


Athena swallowed hard, "I hope you know what you're doing."

He looked at her for a moment. He should tell her, "about your age."

Keller chuckled but it was devoid of any humor, "i can't say I do."

"She's not very old then," Brit said. She picked up her cup and drank it in one gulp.


Athena looked at their hands for a moment. "Be careful."

"They were known for starting kids in the programs so that in 10 years they were still young but almost perfectly trained." He explained

Keller looked at her his breathing unsteady. The very idea Ooc being a spy made him sick

"That's...horrible." brit said after a minute. "They should have been playing not being trained to do whatever."


She slowly looked up, her eyes meeting his. "You'll be fine," she forced out. "You can charm your way out of anything."

Loren nodded, "i completely agree." And he did. It wasn't good this life these children had had but that was past

"i want able to charm my way around you ." He said teaaingly

” do you think she'll help us?” She asked

” maybe I'm just good at resisting your charm,” she said

"i reallly hope so," Loren sighed as he finished his drink.

This made him laugh, genuinely, "good to know."

"I should probably get back to the lab," Brit said.


Athena grinned, "you still didn't win."

"oh...Alright....ill walk you back." He said standin

"it was a draw." He said his smile touching hos eyes

Brit stood and paid for her drink. "You just going home?"

"Keep telling yourself that," she teased.

Loren nodded, "you should too."

Brit stepped outside, "maybe. I still have a few things to do."

He nodded," I see. Don't stay too late."

She smiled faintly. "Thanks for getting me out of the lab for a little while, it was...nice."

He returned the smile," any time."

"What are you doing tomorrow? Going after the girl again?" She asked

"Most likely if we can find her." He said rubbing the back of his neck

Brit stopped walking and turned to face him. "Don't hurt her. I know what your job is but...she was forced to be the way she is."

"hurting her is the last thing I want...trust me." he assured her, "I would much rather her join us willingly or even over time. the last thing I want for that girl is what I do."

Brit nodded. "Good. Do you know anything about her? I wonder if her family knows where she is."

he shook his head, "They don't. Most everyone in her family has passed."

"That's sad," Brit said as she started walking again. "Having no famly...is hard."

he sighed falling in step with her, "I can only imagine."

"But I guess it makes me more useful," she said, almost sarcastically. "I don't have any reasons not to work late."

he reacehd out taking her by the arm and turning her to face him, " Don't...its not like that."

"Really?" She snapped. "What's going on Loren? I know I'm being watched and my new assistant is asking a ton of questions about me and what I'm doing. Does the Union really believe that I'd switch sides?"

"I don't but they are nervous little cracks that are jumping at every turn. the resistance is giving them more crap here than they thought they would." he said a little defensively

"So there taking it out on me? They bugged my apartment! Do they think I'm secretly meeting someone?" She asked

"I'm not sure what you want me to say. My work isn't scrutinized only because they understand how it works. You and that whole side of things its much more complicated and they don't like complicated."

"If they have questions they should just ask," Brit said. She took a deep breath, "I'm sorry. I haven't been getting much sleep lately."

"Then go sleep like a normal human...maybe it will make them less suspicious."

She half smiled, "yeah, maybe. Its hard to sleep when you're being watched."

"I can see that." He said with a nodd, "perhaps they'd stop watching you if you behaved....more human."

"More human?" She asked. "How? This who I am. I don't know what more human means. "

"More human lime them." He sighed, "they don't like difference. They dont like people who work too late....they. it's hard to read them sometimes."
