well, until someone claims Harry I will play him


Jeb took a deep breath of the brisk air. it was only four am but he was up and getting the fire stirred up for a quick breakfast. the cattle drive had taken longer than they had expected and even though he liked the open air he wanted to get home. their dad hadn't come with them and he was a little worried about the others. Harry could handle anything that came their way but in all honesty he wondered how Kate was fairing. she was the most vulnerable of all of them. Oh and Summer. she had been living with them for six months now and was probably driving Harry up the wall
"hey sleeping beauty you getting up?" he asked of his pink haired sister

Marshal, having heard the fire being stirred, rolled over and opened his eyes to see the barely light sky. He pushed himself out of the sleeping bag and then to his feet, walking over to the fire and his older brother. "Hey," he said with a yawn as he sat next to Jeb.

Jeb nodded, " is she up yet?" he asked. Jeb wasn't exactly known for smiling especially out in the field

"I'm getting up, I'm getting up," Lucy said, rolling over.
Marshal grinned. "She'll probably be up in a few... I mean, it's Summer we have to worry about sleeping in."

Jeb did chuckle, "yeah and that's exactly why she never comes out on these things." he pointed out putting on the coffee. he drew in a long deep breath, " I'm glad she's home."

"Yeah," Marshal agreed. "It was weird when she was gone."

he nodded. it had felt empty some how. even though she complained enough for all of them she was still their sister and she needed to be home where she belonged.
he threw the potatoes onto the coals

Lucy groaned and pushed herself up into a sitting position. "I'm up, I'm up."

he rolled his eyes, " if you don't hurry breakfast will be over."

Lucy got up and stretched as she joined the boys. "Coffee ready yet?" she asked as she sat on the other side of Jeb.

he filled a cup, " half tempted not to give you any." he handed the cup to her

She smiled and took the cup. "Thank you, darling older brother," she said before taking a sip.
"We'll be home soon, right?" Marshal asked, unable to completely keep the hope out of his voice.

he shook his head, " Lucy one of these days I'll really not give you breakfast."


Harry put the dishes in the sink. Summer had missed breakfast and he wasn't about to be as soft on her as Jeb was

Summer rolled over in her bed, causing her hair to get in her face. She was warm under the old n worn quilt that lied on her bed. She opened her eyes for a moment and saw that the it was way too early to be awake in her book, she hated to be awake when it was earlier than 5:00am, but she hated being awake at after that time as well. She moved her hair off her face and tried to fall back to sleep.

Lucy sighed and nodded. "I'm sorry, Jeb."
