PostSubject: The Legend of King Arthur (The RP)   Sat Jan 31, 2009 2:18 am

EVERYONE IS FREE TO JOIN THIS RP, PLEASE PICK A CHARACTER THAT HASN'T BEEN CHOSEN AND POST IN THE CHARACTERS THREAD WHO YOU WANT TO PLAY. THANKS.

THIS RP WAS ALREADY GOING ON TDL BUT WE HAD TO STOP THE ACTION WHEN ARTHUR WAS ALREADY GROWN UP AND A KING AND HE IS ABOUT TO MEET GUINEVERE. WE WILL PROBABLY CONTINUE FROM HERE.

THANKS.

This RP is about the Legend of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table.
The RP will begin with King Arthur being around 10 and living with his foster father, Sir Ector and his foster brother Kay (Sir Kay of course becomes one of the most loyal Knights later on). The reason why it will start with Arthur being a kid is because we want to go through the moment when he pulls the sword from the anvil or stone, whatever you think the legend say it is, and becomes king. We probably won't spend much time here because we want the grown up characters to appear asap.

If you want to join and don’t know the Legend of King Arthur, please research it and then come join. You can only join if you PM me telling me what character you want to be. If you want to learn the basics of King Arthur’s Legend, go to the following link and see if there is another character you would like to be and how it will fit with the main storyline.

http://www.kingarthursknights.com/default.asp

We will start with these characters and then add others as we go.

King Arthur (me)
Queen Guinevere (Josie_Caspian91)[/b]
Merlin (Copperfox)
Sir Ector (me)
Sir Kay
Vivien/Nimue (Lady of the Lake) (Ginny_Jill Pole)
Morgan La Fay (Arthur’s half sister and antagonist) Loverble

Knights of the Round Table
Sir Lancelot
Sir Gawain
Sir Bors
Sir Balin (Copperfox)
Sir Grummore (Copperfox)
Other?

Other Characters:
Name: Roselyn
Age: Around the same age as Guineviere and her childhood friend.

Name: Melonà (Gentle Voice)
Age:??
Bio: Daughter of William Twyti and destined to become a great huntress
Looks: She has long black hair and blue green eyes she is about 5'4".

William Twyti (Copperfox)

Here are a few rules to keep it family friendly.

-Read all the posts since you last posted.
-No one kills another player’s character without permission.
-No extramarital affairs or any other sensual innuendo.
-Innocent romance it’s ok but I will not put up with players making up boyfriends and playing their main character and their boyfriends in endless syrupy conversations.
-No making up characters that are not Arthurian, so don’t make up a great amazon warrior that it’s infinitely more powerful than all the knights combined because she doesn’t exist in the legend.
-No saying that you character is “better” than the others. Your character of course can have different abilities.
-Try to write in the voice of the period, use words like Lady, Sir, Gentleman, My Lord, My Lady, Sire. Try not to use contractions i.e. “we’re,” “ you’re,” “he’s .” Say "we are," "you are," "he is," as much as possible. And definitely do not say things like: “what’cha doing” or “love ya”

Mostly we will unite to battle the Saxons and others who invade Britannia. We can also have jousting tournaments with other tribes or among ourselves. The RP will features Hadrian's Wall as one of the main defensive feature in our battles against the Saxons. If the RP gets popular, we can add other plots to the storyline as long as they are consistent with the Legend.

When we get enough players make a good start we’ll go."

~Thanks....BarbarianKing

If no one assumes the role of Morgan le Fey soon, in view of possibilities Kim and I had discussed while she was playing that role, I will ask if Mike will allow ME to control Morgan so that the special ideas could still be enacted.

PostSubject: The Last Posts from TDL   Sat Feb 07, 2009 11:41 pm

Here are the last 4 posts from TDL.
I do apologize again, I know some were getting frustrated with me. I do apologize. I am in my final year of high school and preparing to go to University. So I am a little limited for computer time now. But none the less here they are. Smile

-After the giant fell, Arthur mounted his horse again and moved towards Uriens while still fighting a couple of other warriors of the enemy. Arthur saw Uriens also mount his horse and grab a nearest lance. The King realized he had no lance but was determined to fight Uriens with his axe is needed be. But Sir Bevidere was watching the whole thing so he handed Arthur his lance. Upon seeing Arthur with a lance, Uriens urged his horse.

The melee around them stopped for a moment as all eyes were on Arthur and Uriens, who were going full speed now with their lances pointing to the other's heart. The clash was deafening as Uriens lance glanced off of the side of Arthur's shield, but Arthur's lance caught Uriens right in the shield's center and sent him reeling back.

Arthur dismounted and drew his axe again. He paused to let Uriens get up if he could. Uriens did get up and drew his sword. Sword and axe clashed a few times, but there was not much of a contest. Uriens had been wounded when he was unhorsed and it didn't take long for Arthur to disarm him and send him down to the ground with one good stoke of the heavy axe.

"Your life is forfeit, King Uriens, but if you swear allegiance to the Trueborn King of all Britain it may yet be spared."

Uriens appeared to be thinking.

"What say you, Lord?"

--Lot, being hauled to the scene by Pellinore, was full of enough prideful rage to banish good sense. "Die like a man!" Lot yelled at Uriens, actually forgetting that he himself had just yielded to Pellinore rather than die.

"A brute like you," growled Pellinore to his prisoner, "is no example for sons to follow. I shall urge the High King to take your sons out of your keeping, that they may be taught REAL knighthood."

Uriens stared at Lot with contempt.

"What say you, King Uriens? We are not knights without mercy. Just as our Heavenly Father has shown us mercy, so must we show it. But you must accept it."

King Uriens got on one knee in front of Arthur and said: "I swear allegiance to the court of Camelot, and it's king, Arthur, the Trueborn King of All Britain."

Then he looked at Arthur in the eyes: "Something I should have done years ago when as a lad you pulled that sword from the stone, my lord."

---Sir Kay and King Leodegrance came riding up side by side. As Leodegrance was being given a rundown on action in the field by King Pellinore, Kay addressed his foster-brother:

"Your Majesty, I see that Uriens has been given mercy, in which honor now compels us to be consistent; but if Lot has not sworn fealty, I advise that he be enthroned on a gallows, for many of his captured men confirm that it was his idea to court the Saxons as allies."

"He has yielded, and must be spared, more's the pity," said Lamorak; "but my father's case is the more strongly made for taking Lot's sons away from his foul and base mentorship."

PostSubject: THE PREVIOUS WAS WINDING UP THE BATTLE THAT RESCUES GUINEVERE   Sun Feb 08, 2009 12:13 am

Now for my first NEW story-post on this forum!

MANY LEAGUES EAST BY SOUTHEAST of the domain of Arthur's ally Leodegrance, Royal Councillor Merlin Ambrosius was accompanying Baron Kevin of Tarnwell and his surviving warriors back to Kevin's fiefdom. They had completely thwarted the latest move against Britain by the barbarians. Trailing them in chains were some fifty captured Saxon warriors, who would be put to forced labor--in farming and other tasks--for the benefit of those British families whom they had deprived of husbands, fathers and sons. All weapons and other useful items taken from Saxons living or dead were to be divided among the Baron's vassals. Merlin gave assurance in King Arthur's name that, after such heroic service as the men of Tarnwell had performed, Arthur would not think of demanding any share in their battle-booty for himself.

"But, my lord, will Arthur still BE our King by the time you return to Camelot?" asked Baron Kevin.

"Yes, and a King still more firmly established," replied the wizard. "It is already revealed to me that His Majesty has defeated Lot and Uriens, captured both of them alive, and compelled them to pledge obedience. As far as I can see into your future, most worthy Kevin, you will never again have to be asked to venture so far from your own lands as you have done in defense of Britain's coast; hereafter Arthur will be able to deploy permanent garrisons all around our shores. My friend, the time of King Arthur has truly come."

Arthur saw Leodegrance coming up to him. He was trailed by his most valiant knights, but also besides him was the most beautiful maiden Arthur had ever seen.

PostSubject: Re: The Legend of King Arthur (The RP)   Mon Feb 09, 2009 12:07 am

As soon as he could in courtesy part company with Baron Kevin, Merlin set out with his superhuman speed for Camelot. Knowing prophetically that Arthur needed no help at Leodegrance's castle, the wizard was hastening to find out what Morgan le Fey might be up to. He had hated leaving her in the royal castle when he and Arthur both had to leave, but there had been no help for it.

Unable to see the pagan princess with his second sight, Merlin experienced a momentary doubt of his own gift--as if witchcraft could actually BLOCK his perception. But then he remembered that it was not given to him to be ALL-knowing anyway; so he chose to hold faith and believe that God would have let him see Morgan if there were need.

He arrived at Arthur's capital far in advance of Arthur, to learn from Sir Sagramore that Morgan and her entourage had quit Camelot on the evening of the same day when Arthur had sallied forth with his knights. She had taken with her the harp which had been given to her; and Sagramore was lamenting stupidly about not having heard Morgan sing again. Scanning the castle, Merlin's more-than-human awareness found no sign of any mischief having been done to people or property. Morgan, and her whole Christ-rejecting faction, would have to be dealt with; but at least no open hostilities had yet begun from that quarter. Merlin would not have been surprised to encounter worse things from Morgan, considering that his calling had forced him to be a party to the wrong done to Morgan's mother (who had also been Arthur's mother).

So, acting in place of Sir Kay in Kay's capacity as Royal Steward, Merlin directed the castle staff to prepare to celebrate their King's triumph. He also authorized a sum of gold to be sent to Baron Kevin in appreciation of his valiant service against King Kerdik's reavers. But Merlin asked for no man's praise or adulation for his own part in protecting Britain from its latest peril. Far weightier matters were on his mind than congratulating himself.

Arthur and Leodegrance greeted each other. Arthur spoke to Leodegrance, not taking his eyes off the beautiful maid.

"Most Loyal King, I am glad we could be of assistance," he said with a small bow.

Meanwhile, King Pellinore, like Leodogrance a regional king supporting the High King, was using his status as a social equal to Lot and Uriens to silence defiant talk from them--chiefly from Lot, who did not like at all the idea of his son Gawain being trained by the victorious Arthur.

Gawain didn't like it, either. When soldiers came to escort him into Arthur's presence, he snatched up a mace and assaulted them, denting the shields of grown men though he still was a boy. It took Pellinore himself, a seasoned warrior and one of the strongest men in Britain, to disarm and subdue the furious lad. "Merlin was right about you, Gawain: you do have the gift of uncommon muscular strength...but only in the morning. Noon will shortly be upon us, and you will be only a boy again. Be grateful that you did not succeed in continuing to fight, provoking us further, only to find your might falling from you as the sun advanced, and yourself suddenly slain."

Sir Lamorak, barely six years Gawain's senior, came up alongside his father Pellinore; he and Gawain glowered at each other. "Be grateful for the mercy of my father and of his liegelord Arthur," said Lamorak to Gawain. "You shall _benefit_ by your hostage condition, for you shall thus learn how _decent_ men bear themselves."

Guinevere curtised deeply; blushing as she felt the knights eyes upon her.

Leodegrace gave Arthur a bow. "I thank you greatly for coming to my assistance. Your deed will not go un-rewarded." He smiled.
He put his hand on Arthur's shoulder "You must be tired and hungry I am sure. Let us go back to my castle and get you fixed up."

Sir Kay, his function as Seneschal (steward) rising to the surface, offered to assist King Leodegrance's senior domestic staff in organizing the victory dinner. As for King Pellinore, he said to his counterpart:

"Esteemed Leogegrance, it is nothing against your noble hospitality that I do not hasten to enjoy it. It is only that I am taking command of doings outside your castle, including sending out scouts _just_ in case any more foes are in the region...and making sure that Lot does not escape. Uriens I trust to keep his word of surrender; but Lot is completely without honor and principles. My holdings on the west coast are near enough to Orkney that Lot's men have raided us in the past; and ever did they strike by foul stealth."

Acting on instructions from the High King, Pellinore questioned many of the captured warriors, which helped him to choose men of both Lot's and Uriens' retinues who would be sent to the home castles of the defeated mutinous kings. Each party of released captives would be given back their arms and armor for self-defense, and would be sent carrying the shield of their king smeared with mud as a token of the defeat. A letter would be sent with each party as well, promising in King Arthur's name a complete pardon to all supporters of Lot and Uriens who yielded to Arthur. This, with the proviso of handing over hostages like Gawain as guarantees of good behavior.

Pellinore knew that this amnesty would mean that many villains who were guilty of the most foul and violent crimes would escape all penalty. Such was often the price of peace in a kingdom. But Pellinore, and his sons, would do what they could to see to it that _future_ crimes by those renegades would not go unpunished.

Arthur next spoke to the maiden. "My lady," he said bowing to her, "we haven't met before. I am King Arthur, Arthur Pendragon. Ask anything and it shall be done."
