As Vivien had gained in youthfulness through time spent close to Morgan, so Morgan had gained in strength for the same reason. While not actually overpowering her aunt, Morgan's new counterattack did get Morgan unpinned. They lovingly wrestled for minutes more, with the advantage going back and forth, before Vivien could get Morgan pinned under her again, at least momentarily. In that moment, Vivien's voice abruptly turned genuinely solemn, almost sad.

"When you say 'Never,' my darling, do you mean that you wish to leave me?"

Steward William's party spent nearly half an hour stirring up the woods, trying to drive deer toward Sir Ector's party, and mainly managing to panic rabbits. The three peasants with William Twyti were allowed to take for their own families' food as many of the rabbits as they could shoot or snare or otherwise catch, along with one wild goat that they turned up. Since winter would come soon, Melona's father--born a peasant himself--had concern for the peasants of the Forest Sauvage fiefdom. He allowed the three peasant men to stay behind and skin and bag up their own take, while he continued on the planned path with the others. "I shall bear the responsibility with Sir Ector for your turning aside from the deer hunt," he told the peasants, and they knew his word was good.

"No!" She cried without thinking. Then quiter said "Thts not what I mean at all. I mean that I do not want you sitting on my chest for the next few years. I am sure it would be quite unfomfortable after a while" she said with a small lopsided smile. She knew eventualy that they may be seperated for a small amount of time and did not want to think about it.

Vivien rolled them over another half-turn, so Morgan lay on top with Vivien's arms still wrapped around her. "Oh, I promise you, beloved, that we will stand up on our feet often enough! But....I want us always to share what we share." She pulled Morgan into another kiss, then added, "With Igraine long dead, Morgawse warped in spirit, and no great male sorcerors on Avalon anymore, you are the ONLY one who truly understands me, and to whom I can speak of all things. Also, I was not sitting on your chest, I was lying full length atop you, as you now are lying atop me."

Relaxing in each other's arms, Vivien and Morgan drifted back to sleep for a little while. This time Vivien was first to wake up. Finding Morgan still where she had been, Vivien drew her head closer to kiss her awake. "Beloved, shall we find some breakfast?"

Morgan, being uppermost in their tender clinch, helped Vivien up onto her feet. Standing, Vivien embraced and kissed Morgan once more; and then they strolled arm in arm toward the common hall where Erichtho and other learners like her shared most of their meals together. As they went, Vivien said, "When the business of presenting Excalibur to Arthur is completed, I shall wish you to begin a new project, which will be mostly your own task to achieve, though I will be with you as you work at it."

Vivien rubbed noses with Morgan, kissed her again, then said, "It is no great mystery. For your own advantage, I want you to work on devising a spell. Almost ANY spell. You know that we are not omnipotent, we cannot simply do anything and everything that enters our minds. We have to think through the effects we wish to produce, then test words and actions that seem likely to channel our innate Talent to achieve these effects. Most of what you have mastered is in the area of sensing things and knowing things, and this is good--especially insofar as it strengthens the bond of love between you and me. But if you are to do more deeds in the wide world, you will need for your own safety to have some spells which influence events around you--such as a spell, if you can master it, for making hostile arrows turn away and miss you."

She took a moment to think and then repleyed "Yes, this seems like a good idea. I shall think through it tonight and see what I can think of. I think the spell would need me to imagin them turning away. I will need to use my imagination for this one I feel. What shall you do dear aunt while I am thinking of helpful spells? "
