At the close of the Halloween night shift, Jack Chang had allowed Sarah Nederlander to make her own way home. But he intended to pick her up for the Saturday night shift.


"I'm sorry," said Lowell to the aunt, "but I thought he was suspecting me of wanting Lolita because she's from a rich family. I wanted him to know that I love HER, not her family's wealth. Anyway, it was hard NOT to talk to Mr. Kali, since he seemed to demand frank and candid speech."


" I think Mr. Redfern is right about these babies," the nurse replied to Zach. "It is a miracle how fast they're gaining strength."


"Hello, sweetheart," said Ranjit. "Now that I'm in civilian clothes again, could you use a hand managing the kids tonight?"
